Nursery (3-5)

LASC Project Information

The Loanhead Community Nursery offers high quality, affordable child care for children between the ages of 3 months and 5 years. We also provide a Wrap Around Care Service in all our After School clubs for preschool children picking up from their School Nursery . We follow a ‘rolling lunch’ programme, available on request.

Our Team

The Loanhead Community Nursery is run by an enthusiastic team of qualified and/or experienced play workers (see team list). They are supervised by the Nursery Manager and Play Leaders who are the first point of contact for parents and carers. They are responsible to the management committee for the day to day organization of the Project. Our team are all checked through the CRBS enhanced disclosure process every 3 years.

Loanhead Community Nursery

Based in the Loanhead Centre, the Nursery operates as follows:

Monday to Friday: 7pm-6pm

A typical Day in the Nursery

We offer a wide range of healthy and nutritious foods at the breakfast club (8am -9am). Please refer to our Food and Drink Policy (Policy No.21)

At the start of your child’s nursery day he/she will be greeted by the staff and will be encouraged to choose a play activity from the range on offer. It is useful at this time for parents/carers to inform staff how their child has been that morning. Once all the children have arrived we have a chance to play, and hungry tums are then refuelled with a snack before we move onto different activities or outside play. We offer the children a variety of activities such as music, baking, play dough, gluing and painting, construction play, games and songs etc. We always have a project/theme we work on and activities will reflect this. Please see the notice board for daily activities.

At 11.30 we collect the children who attended Paradykes, Loanhead, Roslin and Bilston preschool nurseries and bring them to the Community Nursery.

Between 11:30 and 12:30 all children sit together with the team and have lunch. Hot, nourishing meals can be provided by the Nursery, or alternatively you are most welcome to provide a packed lunch for your child. Please be aware that we are an Allergy Aware centre with several children with food allergies. To comply with current Food Safety Regulations, any food from home must be labelled to alert us to the presence of any of any of the common food allergens. We will provide further information regarding this when you register with us.

At 12.30 we escort the children who attend Paradykes, Loanhead or Roslin nursery for the afternoon session to their preschool nursery.

For younger children there is an opportunity to rest in our quiet area, whilst the others take part in story time.

The afternoon’s format is a mirror image of the mornings with different activities and adventures.
